Solar Panels...

Solar panels(more specifically:photovoltaic modules) are a collection of solar cells. They are devices used to collect and store solar energy by the photovoltaic effect. A simple explanation of solar cells is that:

1. photons in sunlight are absorbed by semiconducting materials like silicon
2.Electrons (negatively charged) are knocked loose from their atoms, allowing them to flow through the material to produce electricity. Due to the special composition of solar cells, the electrons are only allowed to move in a single direction. The complementary positive charges that are also created (like bubbles) are called holes, and flow in the direction opposite of the electrons in a silicon solar panel.
3.An array of solar cells converts solar energy into a usable amount of direct current (DC) electricity.

They are potentially one of the greatest possible solutions to our gas dependency due to the extreme amount of energy that the sun gives off daily.

Roller coaster Simulator

Roller coasters are incredible. By definition, a roller coaster is a spacialized railroad system that consists of a track that rises in designed patterns and can also have inversions(loops) along the course. A roller coaster does not have to complete a full circuit (shuttle coasters) but it is a common feature.
The cars on a typical roller coaster are not self-powered. Instead, a standard full circuit coaster is pulled up with a chain or cable along the lift hill to the first peak of the coaster track. The potential energy accumulated by the rise in height is transferred to kinetic energy as the cars race down the first downward slope. Kinetic energy is then converted back into potential energy as the train moves up again to the second peak. This hill is necessarily lower, as some mechanical energy is lost to friction. All roller coasters act on these basic rules, regardless of how complex they are.

The Internet...

The Internet has caused a stir since it first came around in the late 80's. It has completely revolutionized the world market and methods of communication and commerce. It has changed what we think of information as, and what is a letter. The potential that it has in schools is extrodinary. The Internet alone could make schoolbooks archaic and obsolete by providing free information to anyone that can access it. Schools can be entirely taught from home or on the go due to this, making the internet possibly one of the most important emerging technologies in the classroom.

Computers in the classroom...

Computers have become an everyday part of life...from the machines we operate to the food we eat, computers dictate our quality of life. Recently there has been a boom of computers in the classroom. Seeing as our future society will most likely be driven and based by computers, it is a very good idea for youth to start learning about them at a young age, and begin using them accordingly. Computers also give them access to information and learning strategies that would be impossible without them...

The computer allows the easy access of work and completely replaces paper as a means of storage... Computers are the future of education...

At Southern Polytechnic State University, distance students are able to study the sciences, technologies, construction, quality and systems management, information technology, and technical communications in a unique and practical manner. They acquire an education that is career-based and balanced.

In 2008-09, undergraduate tuition was $204 per credit hour; graduate tuition was $245 per credit hour. Tuition for the WebBSIT program was $291 per credit hour. Tuition for the eCore program was $144 per credit hour. All programs required the payment of a technology fee of $75 per semester.

Each year, approximately 90 percent of undergraduate students receive aid, consisting of loans, scholarships, grants, and work-study assignments. Graduate students can receive aid through loans or a work-study program. Information about aid available to distance learners is available through the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at 678-915-7290 or via e-mail at Financial_aid@spsu.edu.

Students may apply online for the online certificates and degrees offered at SPSU. Admissions requirements vary for each program. To learn more, prospective students should go to http://dl.spsu.edu/. The application deadlines for the summer, fall, and spring semesters are May 1, August 1, and December 1, respectively

Archetecture
SPSU is the only public state institution in Georgia to offer the Bachelor of Architecture degree. Our membership in the School of Architecture, Civil Engineering Technology, and Construction affords our students the opportunity to take classes in Construction and Civil Engineering for a multi-disciplinary degree. We also offer classes in furniture design, applied architectural research and designing/building.

Civil Engineering
The Civil Engineering Technology program at Southern Polytechnic State University prepares students for a number of specialized careers in civil engineering. We stress standard design practice and incorporate laboratory experience into the majority of our courses, providing our students with the theory and practice required to move rapidly and successfully into the work force.

Construction
They offer courses in construction law, information systems, strategic bidding and estimating, construction risk analysis, and numerous other subjects. With an average class size of approximately 20 students, learning takes place in a friendly and personal environment. Classes incorporate use of state-of-the art-software applications and contemporary theories.

Electrical Engineering
The Electrical Engineering Technology major incorporates courses in Engineering Technology, Math, and Management in addition to required core classes. Courses such as Data Communications and Signal and Systems Analysis ultimately lead to the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology.

Mechanical Engineering
At Southern Polytechnic, we develop mechanical engineering technologists who can apply relevant engineering principles to today's industrial problems. Our bachelor's degree programs emphasize necessary theoretical concepts and practical laboratory experience in manufacturing processes and techniques, instrumentation and controls, and equipment and machinery performance evaluation. Instruction takes place in some of the most cutting edge laboratories and classrooms the Southeast has to offer.

Computer Engineering
The degree program in Computer Engineering Technology utilizes a core of mathematics, physics, and courses in digital, circuit, and electrical design to provide the scientific and technical background needed for an in-depth study of the hardware and software aspects of computers and their systems. The program emphasizes the use of microcomputers for hands-on application of learned principles and theories.

Industrial Engineering
Southern Polytechnic offers the only Industrial Engineering Technology program in the state of Georgia. In addition to our four-year bachelor's degree program, we also offer certificates in four specializations: logistics, production design, quality principle, and sales.

Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is the way of the future. Today we are addicted to sources of energy like coal and nuclear fission only to find that they are hazardous to the environment and cause polution. We must realize sooner then later that they only possible alternatives to coal and oil are renewable sources. Wind energy has been proven to have the potential to replace coal in a vast number of countries as a source of electricity. Soolar energy used on personal homes has bbee shown to reduce heating and electricity bills by over half. Yet the greatest of these is possiibly geothermal enegy. With Geothermal energy we have the potential to power every ciity on Earth for as long as the planet has heat, which is forever. The sooner that we break our dependence from fossil feuls the quicker we canstart building a cleaner society.
